Client Story
How PHM supported Steve through complex surgery.
Steve had been experiencing extreme neuropathic pain and spent most days feeling as though there was a tight band around his torso. He had electric shock-like sensations in his lower extremities. After months of tests, procedures and no results, an MRI revealed he had a benign spinal cord tumor in his upper back.
Now he knew the source of his constant pain, but he didn’t know what to do. He needed help understanding his options and weighing the risks. Steve’s employer connected him to PHM.
Steve’s PHM Personal Care Team sought out world-class experts capable of performing the immensely complex surgical procedure. The team worked with his surgeon to help him understand that his sensory function would likely be compromised because of the delicate location of the tumor. Steve underwent surgery to remove the mass in his spine.
Post-surgery, Steve’s PHM Personal Care Team helped him adapt to the expected complications of nerve damage and loss of mobility and connected him with rehabilitation experts and guidance on how to manage neuropathic pain with the right mix of treatments and medications.
His team gave Steve and his family the emotional support they needed to manage the unknown, giving them confidence and a sense of control when they had neither.
Steve’s health journey is far from over, but his experience with PHM set him up for future progress.
His PHM team created a network of support that saw him through his initial diagnosis, his surgery, and the hard work of his ongoing recovery.
