Approximately 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in their lifetime. It is the second most common cancer in women, after skin cancer, and the second leading cause of cancer death, after lung cancer. However, recent statistics show some promising trends—over the last 30 years, breast cancer deaths have decreased by 42%, and the current 5-year survival rate stands at 91.2%. Advances in treatment have played a role, but increased awareness, participation in cancer screenings, and improved screening technologies have been fundamental in saving lives.
