Client Story
How advanced medicine and innovative treatment transformed a challenging diagnosis into a story of hope.
After avoiding it for years, Anna had a mammogram. The results completely changed her life as she was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. Fortunately, Anna’s cancer was caught early, vastly improving her prognosis. Yet, she lived in a remote community with limited access to high-quality healthcare. Recognizing this, she engaged PHM to ensure she received the best care and outcome.
Triple negative breast cancer tends to recur if not treated aggressively, so having an experienced team develop an optimal treatment and monitoring plan was critical. Anna’s PHM Personal Care Team ensured the baseline therapies were being delivered by experts and that Anna had access to the latest science-backed data and research.
Early Detection and Expert Care at DukePHM transferred Anna’s care to a leading breast cancer team at Duke University Medical Center and facilitated repeat testing, imaging, and pathology review to confirm her diagnosis and rule out the presence of cancer cells in her lymph nodes.
Anna began treatment with a three-drug chemotherapy combination that was standard of care for triple negative breast cancer. Her PHM team advised she might be an excellent candidate for a newly FDA-approved immunotherapy drug.
The results were remarkable. When Anna underwent surgery to remove the lump in her breast after completing her treatment, there was no evidence of remaining disease.
Anna continued periodic blood tests for monitoring and continued immunotherapy treatment for a year. Anna benefitted from a holistic approach that extended beyond medical treatment. Her PHM team also supported her emotional well-being by connecting her with a social worker, a wig provider, and coordinated genetic testing to understand potential hereditary risks. Anna’s experience underscores the critical importance of regular screening and personalized health care.
