This employee reached out to PHM following a new diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis. 

The employee was diagnosed with MS while hospitalized for stroke-like symptoms, and was discharged with minimal education or instruction. 

The next available outpatient neurology appointment was scheduling two months out, creating possible delays in treatment that could impact disease progression and outcome.  

The employee was understandably anxious and distressed to have a new diagnosis without a treating provider or plan in place.

Post-consult, PHM provided decision support for employee to initiate medication ahead of an additional top expert appointment based on review of the treatment landscape, initial expert weigh in, and clinical necessity. The employee would not have known how to proceed without this guidance and support.  

The PHM-identified local top expert confirmed the treatment decision the following month, and the employee has elected to pursue ongoing care with this provider.
