Platinum-Resistant Ovarian Cancer Diagnosis Navigated with Optimized Treatment Options

PHM navigated expert consultations and clinical trials and reduced treatment challenges.

Presentation

A 58-year-old woman experienced recurrent high-grade ovarian cancer that had spread to her liver. She couldn’t continue her previous treatments due to side effects affecting her blood cell counts. She turned to Private Health Management to explore different treatment options.

PHM IMPACT

Her Personal Care Team arranged consultations with top specialists, including one at Dana-Farber. Additionally, her team arranged screening for a clinical trial targeting the alpha folate receptor. After receiving her test results, her Personal Care Team determined she met the trial inclusion criteria and managed her enrollment. The team found a trial site close to her home, reducing travel challenges and costs.

Outcome

The client received four cycles of the antibody-drug conjugate, which initially reduced her CA125 levels and controlled her disease for three months. Participating in the trial also gave her the opportunity to try immunotherapy, something she and her family were very interested in exploring. By finding a local trial site, PHM saved her significant travel time and costs. Her blood counts improved during the trial, allowing her to continue chemotherapy afterward.

With her Personal Care Team expert’s guidance, she received access to a promising treatment and optimized her participation. The drug studied in the clinical trial was later found to be highly effective for platinum-resistant ovarian cancer, improving the treatment of others.
