Client Story
PHM’s expert guidance and advanced genetic testing helped avoid complete lung removal.
Presentation
A 45-year-old former smoker went to the doctor with a persistent cough and other respiratory symptoms. A scan showed a small but active mass in the right lung, but initial tests did not confirm cancer. When his symptoms didn’t improve, further scans revealed that the mass had grown.
Wanting to approach treatment aggressively while maintaining a high quality of life, he turned to Private Health Management.
PHM IMPACT
The client began a treatment plan of chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Further genetic testing results then showed a specific mutation that meant immunotherapy would not be an effective treatment option. His PHM Personal Care Team guided him through a more personalized treatment approach.
His Personal Care Team explained why the initial treatment plan needed to change and provided education on alternative treatment options. They arranged for a second opinion with a leading specialist who recommended a revised plan of chemotherapy combined with targeted therapy. The client’s Personal Care Team advocated for the use of personalized cancer vaccine alongside the new treatment plan, a decision supported by the leading specialist.
To achieve the best surgical outcome, the client’s PHM Personal Care Team attended five surgical consultations to help identify the most effective approach for removing the tumor. After surgery, they closely monitored him for any signs of recurrence.
Outcome
With the revised treatment plan, he had an outstanding response to therapy. Instead of requiring a full lung removal, doctors were able to perform a less invasive lobectomy and remove the affected lymph nodes. After surgery, additional testing found lingering cancer cells, leading to follow-up scans and an early adrenal gland resection before the cancer could spread further.
PHM’s monitoring and testing played a crucial role in identifying the most effective treatment, allowing the tumor to be removed while preserving as much lung function as possible.
