How PHM helped Carrie find the best treatment for aggressive cancer and supported her throughout.

Presentation

Just days after finding a lump, Carrie was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. She had been through cancer before and was extremely distressed about going through it again.

After receiving the biopsy results, Carrie’s husband reached out to PHM. The same night, her new PHM personal care team walked her through an initial plan. From this first encounter, PHM changed the narrative of her cancer journey. She knew immediately that she had a team that cared immensely.

PHM Impact

Within days, PHM had appointments set up with one of the best specialists for aggressive triple negative breast cancer.

Planning and Executing a Personalized Care Plan

PHM researchers worked with Carrie’s doctors to evaluate newer chemotherapy and immunotherapy combinations and to implement the latest monitoring techniques. Initial chemotherapy didn’t work as well as hoped, so PHM helped immediately change course with surgery to remove the growing tumor, followed by a different chemotherapy and testing to determine potential response to backup therapy options.

Ongoing Monitoring

After treatment, an MRI showed a possible metastasis in her liver. Working with Carrie’s oncologist, PHM obtained a biopsy, full body PET scan, and advanced, personalized blood tests. The results indicated that it was smaller, and unlikely to be cancer. Ongoing imaging and tests ensured that recurrence would be caught quickly, with a treatment plan already in place.

OutCOME

At PHM, healing is multi-faceted and holistic. The aim is to treat the whole person. Following surgery, PHM arranged for a physical therapist and nutritionist. Given that this was her second battle with cancer, Carrie faced great anxiety and stress, so PHM matched her with a therapist, and supported her with texts and video messages.

Because Carrie knew that PHM was taking care of everything, she was able to both continue working and focus on her healing, which she credited as instrumental to her mental and emotional health.
